Environmental Racism

ENVIRONMENTAL RACISM: Environmental justice and racial justice are inextricably linked. One of the most important parts of activism is education. There is so much to learn about the ways environmental racism hurts communities of colour, including Black communities, Latinx communities, and Indigenous communities. Here’s a round up list of books about environmental racism in the US to get you started.

PEACE WITH NATURE: Ex-Guerrillas, who have turned into citizen scientists, are using their knowledge of the Colombian jungle to protect biodiversity. Peace with Nature now unites scientists with guerillas to help protect biodiversity and aid in the post-conflict situation for thousands of people, the majority of whom, are interested in pursuing river habitat restoration as their post-conflict career path.

PLASTIC FREE JULY: Plastic Free July sounds like a daunting and even somewhat crazy event to participate in, especially amid a pandemic when many businesses are refusing to allow reusable mugs and bags. But there are good reasons to take part this year and start developing greener ways of doing things – here’s some easy changes you can make that’ll still have a big impact.

HUGE OCEAN CLEAN UP: After 48 days at sea, the crew of a marine plastic recovery boat has successfully removed 103 tons (206,000 pounds) of plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This is the area’s largest open ocean plastic cleanup on record!
